II. Project Runway Fashion Designer: Helen Castillo

I am not fond of the whole collection of her design.But I pick up two of my favoriate items as below.Indeed, I realy love the curves and waves of the dresses.I do believe  body curves makes a woman irresistablely sexy.

Design Aesthetic: Helen is heavily influenced by structure and tailoring classics. She is drowning to shape her collection with modern edge, or literally modern couture.

I read her interview and sum up the following notes. Here’s Helen’ Castillo’s profile:

As an up-and-coming designer, Helen particularly views comfortability level and fit first. To be more precisely, being conscious of body curves is the requirement to be a successful designer in her sight. When it comes to a chic fashion, she convinced that “classics reborn.” She goes fabric shopping quite often and she goes for the most expensive fabrics as she always does. Because she truly believes that it is totally worthwhile, though she has a big hole in her pocket. Hence, she aims to create timeless, effortless and luxe items. She personally invests a lot in some simple comfort items, especially shoes and handbags and top, pleated skirt and skinny jeans all in black. In terms of boots, she is really into Margiela boots. Both of her parents are artists. In a sense, she grew up in a relatively creative environment. She has been obsessed with illustrator of portrait and model drawing when she was little and the first time she modeled a dress for her parent’s tenant, she was just in her fourth grade and the model herself is a fashion designer in reality who helped her make the dress. She found her lifetime passion in early teens and she took Design Room Techniques undergrad course during high school.

When it comes to her biggest inspiration in the industry of fashion design, the answer goes to her mother. Her mother is a commercial artist who works for fashion and cosmetic companies and Helen takes the advantage to visit the company and checks the fabric printing and so on. Significantly, both of her parents worked at a graphic design studio in the 80’s, and Helen is given a great chance to attend their art shows and be wrapped up by creative painting, sculpture and generally fine arts. She grew up in Weehawken, where is close to Manhattan, the titled garment district. Altogether, she is exposed to tons of diversity in her daily lives. Besides, she looks for insight by visiting fashion houses as well, in particular Valentino.
