The Difference Between Copywriter & Content Writer - Getting Closer to God's Voice 1985

What’s the Difference Between Copywriter & Content Writer?

Writers generate original written material, while editors review and revise content. The rise of blogs does change the world. With 53 percent of marketing professionals naming blogging as their top content marketing priority, according to HubSpot. Further, sites with blogs see a 434 percent better chance of being well ranked on search engines. Thus, never underestimate the influence and impact of blogging.

Copywriting is used to generate sales, which are demonstrated in the form of ads, sales letters, sales emails, PPC landing pages, and more. In a sense, copywriting focuses on short-term marketing campaigns with big returns for the sake of branding or products-promotion. Usually, copywriters use persuasive, emotional language to appeal to the consumer to take immediate action for shopping. A talented or professional copywriter should be good at crafting compelling headlines and CTAs to prompt consumers to purchase a product or schedule a tour.  Eugene Schwartz,  Being a famed direct-mail copywriter, said it best “Tap a single overwhelming desire existing in the hearts of thousands of people who are actively seeking to satisfy it at this very moment.”

Content Writing

Content writing includes blog posts, social media posts, white e-books, and other materials or practical knowledge that educate, and inform your audience about a given topic. The gifted content writers are good at storytelling and convert readers’prospects and life values.

Being a content writer and editor, I am talented in summarizing a long draft into a few paragraphs or a few sentences. The issues I do focus on ranged from body’s self-healing mechanism, diabetes, parenting, workplace bullying, PTSD symptoms, depression, dating rape, social prejudice, capitalism, divorce stigma, post-traumatic growth, TCM (traditional Chinese medicine), Bible reading, etc.

According to HubSpot, B2B marketers found blogging to be time- and cost-effective. Content writing does have the chance to promote a brand or a company’s credibility to the TA. A professional content writer should provide valuable, informative, and authoritative content

Bottom line: The big difference and distinction between copywriting and content writing lie in its ultimate purpose and intent. Copywriting is advertorial in nature that it exists for the sake of sales and brand promotion while content writing is all about delivering valuable ideas, or ideology. Copywriter and content writing both need to be well-written and promise quality writing. A copywriter writes “marketing material” for a living. And a content writer does not necessarily refer to a professional writer, but anyone who is able to who produce valuable content.
