The Longshan Temple, located in Wanhua District of Taipei, is a historic monument in Taipei. It’s also a must-visit religious attraction for foreign tourists. In Taiwan, we light up various kinds of lights in temples to pray for good luck for whole year. Longshan Temple is famous for its pharmacist lights, safety lights and bright lights which attracts thousands of believers to line up all night long. From the New Year’s Eve to the first day, the temple will also hang two headlamps to make the worshipers pray for peace through the lights. After visiting the temple, you can take a walk to the historic district to understand the history of Wanhua.

After visiting, it’s good to look around in Lugang Street. You will find some antique buildings and stories there.

Beigang Chaotian Temple originated in 1694, the statue of the ancestral of Mazu moved from Fujian(China) to Taiwan. At that time, only a small temple was built.
