Taipei Longshan Temple
[台北龍山寺 / Taiˊ Beiˇ Longˊ Shan Shiˋ]
The Longshan Temple, located in Wanhua District of Taipei, is a historic monument in Taipei. It’s also a must-visit religious attraction for foreign tourists. In Taiwan, we light up various kinds of lights in temples to pray for good luck for whole year. Longshan Temple is famous for its pharmacist lights, safety lights and bright lights which attracts thousands of believers to line up all night long. From the New Year’s Eve to the first day, the temple will also hang two headlamps to make the worshipers pray for peace through the lights. After visiting the temple, you can take a walk to the historic district to understand the history of Wanhua.

Taichung Dajia Zhenlan Temple

Dajia Zhenlan Temple has been established for more than 200 years, is the largest temple in Dajia Town. In March of each lunar month, Dajia Matsu Pilgrimage, one of the three major religious activities in the world, will be held here. On New year’s Eve, a large of people are attracted to the lucky red envelopes and striving for being the first worshiper of new year.

Changhua Lukang TianHau Temple
[鹿港天后宮 / Luˋ Gangˇ Tien Houˋ Gung]
Lukang TianHau Temple is one of the three major monuments in Changhua. On New Year’s Eve at 11.15 pm, the temple staffs will follow the ancient ceremony to welcome the Ninth Goddess of Mercy to the nave. Mayor, local representatives and management committee of the temple will gather together to pray for the good luck next year. After visiting, it’s good to look around in Lugang Street. You will find some antique buildings and stories there.

Yunlin Beigang Chaotian Temple
[北港朝天宮 / Beiˇ Gangˇ Chaoˊ Tien Gung]
Beigang Chaotian Temple originated in 1694, the statue of the ancestral of Mazu moved from Fujian(China) to Taiwan. At that time, only a small temple was built. After underwent many additional construction, it turns to a big temple. Although it suffered a devastating earthquake in 1905, the reconstructed Beigang Chaotian Temple is more with the beauty of traditional Chinese arts, as many pilgrims pilgrimage. In 2013, it won the first place in worshiping temple in Taiwan. If you intend to light up your bright light, it’s a good choice to come here!

Tainan Nankunshen Daitian Temple

Nankunshen Daitian Temple is well known for its shape. It is called as “the best prefecture in the world” and is also one of the largest temple in Taiwan. The building consists of two temples which makes it look more magnificent. During the Chinese New Year, a blessing activity will be held which attracts tons of people line up on the first day of the New Year.
