2018 Michelin Recommended!Street Food foray into Nanjichang Night Market - ReadyGo

On March 6, the first Taipei Bib Gourmand was released. There are 36 restaurants be recommended and 10 of them are from night markets! As we always say, that night markets are the proud and the representation of Taiwan. Let’s take a look and give a shot to these street food on the list!

Nanjichang Night Market

Used to be military airport, Nanjichang established by the Japanese military. A the rule ended, this area was covered into public housing and a community for military dependents, and slowly developed into the night market. The market specializes in popular food at reasonable prices, including oyster dei (fried oysters), cold noodles, Water dumplings, Fried buns, and Canned-Glutinous Rice, which leave a delicious and lingering, unforgettable taste. The area has recently attracted a number of dumpling shops, earning it a new nickname, “Dumpling Street.” (Resource from Taipei City Market Administration Office)

| Sesame chicken阿男(A Nanˊ)麻油雞

Sesame chicken is the dish that must comes up in your mind when winter comes in Taiwan. Adding sesame,ginger and rice wine, the soup is thick and rich in flavor. There are lots of chicken inside the soup, so it’s not quite expensive. Actually, it’s worth more than its cost. Mostly, people will order vermicelli when eating sesame chicken. If you come to Taiwan in winter, you must have a try of this at Nanjichang night market.

This is the world’s best love-it-or-hate-it snack and Taiwan does it just right. This one is the must-have at Nanjichang night market! Unlike other stinky tofu, stinky tofu of  臭老闆(Chouˋ Lauˇ Banˇ) are steaming instead of fried. People are willing to line up only to have a taste of these tofu. You can’t miss this if you go to Nanjichang night market.

|Nanjichang Changhua Bawan南機場彰化肉丸

Bawan is a Taiwanes street snack commonly found in night market. A translucent wrapper made from rice flour, corn starch and sweet potato starch holds a stuffing of pork, bamboo shoots and mushrooms. It is served with a sweet and savory sauce. The dumplings are steamed, then deep-fried to keep the wrapper from drying out. They only serve 200 bawans per day so if you want to have a bite, it’s good to come here before 3 pm.

|Keelung Tian bu la基隆黑輪綜合甜不辣

Tian bu la is basically a Taiwan take on Japanese oden, with more sugariness, tougher fish cakes and a signature sauce. It refers to fish paste that has been molded into various shapes and sizes, deep-fried, then boiled in a broth. Before eating, the pieces of solid fish paste are taken out of the broth and smothered in brown sauce. After finishing the pieces of fish cakes, get some soup from the vendor and add it to the remaining sauce in the bowl. Mix and drink the soup, don’t waste a single drop!
