BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Taiwan(臺灣) was once called as Formosa. Located in eastern Asia which is at the west-north side of Pacific ocean. Taiwan is a sea island surrounded by Pacific ocean, Bashi strait, South China sea, Taiwan strait and East China sea and is near to China, Japan and Korea. With an area of ​​about 36,000 square kilometers, it is the 38th largest island in the world.  The climate is between the tropical and subtropical zones. The natural landscape and ecosystem resources are quite rich and diverse. The population of Taiwan is about 23.31 million.

There are some public holidays in Taiwan. On these days, there will be day-off and some places will celebrate them with fireworks.

VISAS
There are four kinds of visas, travelers may obtain tourist visas if they hold foreign passports or travel documents valid for more than six months in the Republic of China for purposes of dining, business, family visits, study or training, medical treatments, or other legitimate activities. The duration of stay categorize into 14 days, 30 days, 60 days and 90 days. If a visa holder who has a 60-day stay without a restriction is required to extend the stay period in Taiwan, he/she must check the relevant documents before the expiration of the stay period and apply for an extension. For any further questions about visa application, please contact  e-mail: [email protected] or TEL: +886-2-2343-2891 or +886-3-398-2629.

TAX REFUND
With the entry document, if you make purchases of at least NT$2,000 on the same day from the same designated stores with the “Taiwan Tax Refund”-label are eligible to request the “Application Form for VAT Refund.” You can claim your refund at the tax refund service at airports/port terminals, on-site small-amount tax refunds or designated counter for tax refund service.

USEFUL INFORMATION
There are limitation of luggage clearance. For currencies, value over US$10,000 should be declared. You are allowed to bring currency under NT$100,000. 
Paper money comes in NT$2000, NT$1000, NT$500, NT$200, a
nd NT$100 denominations. Coins come in NT$50, NT$20, NT$10, NT$5 and NT$1 denominations.
▸Service charge is customary charge 10% in hotel or restaurant.
▸Taiwan uses electric current of 110 volts at 60 cycles, appliances from Europe, Australia or South-East Asia will need an adapter or transformer.
▸The rate for domestic express letters are NT$5, and NT$12 for prompt delivery. There is also a domestic super-express mail, which is expensive, but your letter is guaranteed to be delivered anywhere in just a few hours. International express mail service is available.

TIPS and ADVISEMENT
In some places, there is free shuttle bus for tourists. Note this and you can travel on a budget.
If you travel with children or elders, it’s not recommended to charter directly from Central Taiwan to Hualien due to the dangerous road. It’s really easy to feel dizzy.
Taipei is a good place for shopping. If you want to shop in Taiwan, it’s recommended to arrange Taipei as the last stop.
If you entry from Zhongzheng airport, it’s better to start your trip from Central or southern Taiwan then back to Taipei.
If you entry from Songshan airport, it’s better to start your trip in Taipei.

TAIPEI

Taipei is the capital city of Taiwan. You may experience the city atmosphere of Taiwan in all aspects, including history, literature, and shopping. Taipei has excellent geographical location and traffic environment, including the earliest completion of the Taipei Metro Rapid Network of Taiwan and is also an important transportation thoroughfare to Taoyuan International Airport, and many expressways. Taipei flower is azalea, city bird is Formosan Blue Magpie, and city tree is eucalyptus which you can see most of them on NT dollars.

NORTHERN TAIWAN

Taiwan is an island with mixture of culture, food and fascinating scenery. Since that Taiwan is located on a tectonic joint, it’s a destination full of hot springs. You can experience art and history atmosphere in Jiufen and Pingxi. If you want escape from the bustle, you can go to the hot spring in Yilan. If you are interested in Hakka culture of Taiwan, Taoyuan and Hsinchu will be your destination, where you can try the local delicacies in. If you want to try some fresh fish, you can take the bus or train to Keelung.

EASTERN TAIWAN

Since there are mountains in eastern Taiwan, there are variety kinds of aboriginal live here. The beautiful natural scenery here, especially coastline view, is why it’s famous for. Because of the location on a tectonic joint, some special terrain can be discovered here. In spring, you can go whale watching on Pacific Ocean. Eastern Taiwan is the best choice for family who wants to have a leisure vacation.

CENTRAL TAIWAN

Central Taiwan is important to Taiwan’s agriculture. You can see lots of plain along the highway. The famous mountain, Jade Mt., is also located in Central Taiwan. If you travel with your family, Cingjing Farm and Sun Moon Lake are good destination which you can enjoy the charming view. Also, there is an amusement park which is full with aboriginal culture located in Central Taiwan, too. By the way, it’s a good experience to try some local gourmets at the night markets in Taichung.

SOUTHERN TAIWAN

If you like to play at the beach and enjoy the casual time, then put Kaohsiung and Pingtung on your list. These two places are really famous for the coastline view. And the beach here is quite clean so that you can enjoy the time well. If you would like to try some cheap and local food and learn about the history of Taiwan or experience the passion of Taiwanese, then you must go to Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan. Southern Taiwan is a good place to learn some Taiwanese. It’s really fun!

OFFSHORE ISLANDS

There are several offshore islands around Taiwan and each of them has their specific feature. It’s really a special and interesting experience to go on a vacation on these islands. In Penghu, you can enjoy the beach and the astonished view of Basalt. In Kinmen, you can learn lots of Taiwanese history and have a try on the Sorghum. In Lanyu, you can experience the living of Taiwanese aboriginal. The view on these islands are really breathtaking and the seafood is awesome.
