一、表示時間的狀語從句

(一)譯成時間狀語

While she spoke, the tears were running down.

她說話時，淚水直流。

Please turn off the light when you leave the room.

離屋時請關電燈。

(二)譯成「剛(一)…就…」

When I reached the beach, I collapsed.

我一游到海灘，就昏到了。

He had hardly rushed into the room when he shouted, 「Fire! Fire!」

He had scarcely handed me the letter when he asked me to read it.

(三)譯成並列的分句

He shouted as he ran.

(一)譯成表「因」的分句

「由於」，「因為」是漢語中常常用來表「因」 的關聯詞。一般說來，漢語表「因」分句在表「果」

分句之前。英語則比較靈活。受英語影響，漢語有時也把「因」放在後面。

The crops failed because the season was dry. 因為氣候乾旱，作物歉收。

She could get away with anything, because she looked such a baby.

她能渡過任何風險，因為她看上去簡直還象是個娃娃模樣。

The strike leaders were alarmed when I told them what had happened as the reporter was unfriendly.

(二)譯成不用關聯詞而因果關係內含的並列分句

「You took me because I was useful. There is no question of gratitude between us,」 said Rebecca.

(一)譯成表示「條件」的分句

四、表示讓步的狀語從句

(一)譯成表示「讓步」的分句「雖然」，「儘管」，「即使」，「就算」等等是漢語中表示讓步的常用關聯詞。漢語中表示「讓步」的分句一般前置，但現在也逐漸出現後置現象。英語則較靈活。

Although he seems hearty and outgoing in public, Mr. Cooks is a withdraw, introverted man.

雖然庫克斯先生在公共場合中是熱情而開朗的，但他確實一個孤僻、性格內向的人。

While I grant his honesty, I suspect his memory.

雖然我對他的誠實沒有異議，但我對他的記憶力卻感到懷疑。

I still think that you made a mistake while I admit what you say.

(二)譯成「無條件」的條件分句

漢語里有一種複句，前一分句排除某一方面的一切條件，后一分句說出任何條件下都會產生同樣的結果，也就是說結果的產生沒有什麼條件限制。這樣的複句里的前一分句，稱之為「無條件」的條件分句。通常以「不論」，「不管」，「無論」，「管」，「隨」等作為關聯詞。

漢語里表「目的」的分句所常用的關聯詞有「為了」、「省(免)得」、「以免」、「以便」、「生怕」等等，「為了」往往用於前置分句，「省(免)得」，「以免」、「以便」、「使得」、「生怕」等一般用於後置分句。

He pushed open the door gently and stole out of the room for fear that he should awake her.

We should start early so that we might get there before noon.
