我的孩子，我希望你成為這樣的一個人

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you；

如果身邊的人毫無道理地對你橫加指責 你仍能冷靜自若；

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you，but make allowance for their doubting too；

如果所有人對你提出質疑，你仍能相信自己，並且不介意他們的猜忌；

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting，or，being lied about，don't deal in lies，or，being hated，don't give way to hating. And yet don't look too good，nor talk too wise；

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master；If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim；

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster ，and treat those two impostors just the same；

如果你能坦然面對榮辱，對虛無縹緲的它們一視同仁；

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken，twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools，or watch the things you gave your life to broken，and stoop and build them up with worn-out tools；

如果你能忍受自己說過的話被騙子歪曲，用以騙人；或眼看畢生守護的東西被毀，仍能忍辱負重撿起破舊的工具修補它；

If you can make one heap of all your winnings，and risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss，and lose，and start again at your beginnings，and never breathe a word about your loss；

如果你能在滿身榮耀之後，仍願為了更高的目標而孤注一擲。失敗之後，從頭再來，絕口不提自己的損失；

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew，to serve your turn long after they are gone，and so hold on when there is nothing in you，except the Will which says to them:"Hold on"；

如果你能在他人離你而去時，仍然奮力堅持；身上除了意志已一無所有時，仍能咬牙挺住；

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue，or walk with kings - nor lose the

common touch；

如果你跟平民交談而保持謙虛，或與王侯同行而不卑不亢；

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you；If all men count with you，but none too much；

如果敵友都無法傷害到你 如果眾人對你信賴有度 ；

If you can fill the unforgiving minute，with sixty seconds' worth of distance run.

如果你能惜時如金 把寶貴的每一分鐘當作六十秒去奮鬥。

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it，and - which is more - you'll be a Man my son！

那麼，你就擁有了整個世界，更重要的是：我的孩子，你就成了一個頂天立地之人！
