這些年我們都用錯的英語詞

Synonyms: 近義詞

To confuse words: 用錯、用混詞

期待: Expect or look forward to?

我們常收到用戶、聽眾們的留言：

• "Love your shows! Expect new shows!" 很喜歡你們的節目，期待新節目！

這裡，不該用expect❌

而應該用look forward to✅

• "Love your shows! Look forwad to new shows!" 很喜歡你們的節目，期待新節目！

為什麼？

Expect指的是基於標準、要求的期待；應該發生：

• A boss expects a lot from his employees: 老闆對員工有高要求、高期待

Look forward to指的是期待、願望、盼望：

• I'm really looking forward to the weekend: 我好期待周末

開燈: Turn on or open?

中文慣性，說「開燈」，很容易脫口而出「open the light"。

• Can you open the light? ❌

• Can you turn on the light? ✅

怎麼區分？

電器、電子設備用turn on:

• Turn on the light: 開燈

• Turn on the TV: 開電視

• Turn on the phone: 開手機

Devices: 設備

其它類型的東西，用open:

• Open the door：開門

• Open the box: 開盒子

• Open your eyes: 睜開眼睛

對應「開"，「關」是turn off或者close。

名片：Name card or business card?

Name card是Chinglish, 英語可不是這樣說的呢！

正確的是⬇️

Business card在口語中，也可以簡化為"card"。

• Do you have a name card? ❌

• Do you have a business card? ✅

• Do you have a card? ✅

高：Tall or high?

Tall形容人，high形容樓房？錯啦！

記住：

Tall用來形容人、樓房、樹；High形容山、牆、高跟鞋。

• Yao ming is very high.❌

• Yao ming is very tall. ✅

• The building is very high. ❌

• The building is very tall. ✅

Highrise: 高樓、高層建築， 注意highrise是一個詞

• The trees are very high.❌

• The trees are very tall. ✅

• The mountain is very tall. ❌

• The mountain is very high. ✅

• High heels: 高跟鞋

• These heels are so high: 這雙鞋的鞋跟好高啊

Fun or funny?

常見錯誤：

The party last night was so funny! ❌

The party last night was so fun! ✅

怎麼區分？

Fun: 好玩兒、有樂趣、有意思

• We had so much fun together: 我們一起玩兒得好開心！

• It's so fun to learn English! 學英語很有樂趣！

Funny: 搞笑

• Stephen Chou's movies are so funny! 周星馳的電影很搞笑！

• My boyfriend's jokes are not funny at all! 我男友的笑話一點兒也不好笑。

注意：一個人可以同時fun和funny！

Fun口語里也常做形容詞使用，比如形容人。

看一下區別：

• Adam is a fun person: Adam是個很有意思的人

• Adam is a funny person: Adam是個很幽默的人

沙發≠Sofa

大家寫留言習慣用的"sofa"完全錯啦！

英語里，sofa就是傢具，不能用在留言上。

正確的用法是：

• First

• First to comment

馬克 ≠ Mark

同樣，"馬克"也不能直接翻成mark！

應該用：

• Bookmark

• Bookmarked

• 今天第一個留言的朋友，別再寫「sofa"啦！ 要寫First!
