鼻煙壺以其精巧卓絕的製作技術，被稱為「集多種工藝之大成於一身的袖珍藝術品」。鼻煙壺在明未清初由歐洲傳入，成為清朝供人玩賞和顯示身份地位的藝術佳品。其質採用玉石、瓷器、料器、漆器、琺琅、金銀、牙角等各種珍物天寶為胎料；以繪畫、書法藝術為粉飾；雕刻、鑲嵌、鍛燒為工藝，集各國多種工藝、藝術之大成於一體，精緻秀美，煥侖煥彩，被喻為一壺在手，「掌中萬象，袖裡乾坤」，堪稱清朝時期工藝美術的縮影。
