Sayclass

Hello everyone!

This is Laura from SayClass!

Summary

Today I want to tell you about some conversations about my two Chinese coworkers: Sophie and Linda.

One day, Linda thanked Gabby to order some food for her, she said, 「Thanks Gabby! You』re the bomb!」 Gabby looked at her very confused. 「Is that a compliment?!」 Then Linda explained, 「Oh that means you are great. You are awesome! 「

Then another day, I show Sophie an essay. I said to Sophie, 「Sophie, you are going to die when you see this!」 She also looked very confused. 「I』m going to die?!」 Then I explained, 「this means you will think it is very funny and laugh a lot.」

還有一天,我給蘇菲看學生寫的有趣的文章,對她說:「You are going to die!」

Today I want to tell you about some conversations that have happened in my office. You know, I am very lucky to work with two Chinese coworkers: Sophie and Gabby. And I also work with a foreign coworker named Linda.

We are all pretty close. We get along well and try to help each other. One day, Gabby helped Linda order some food from a restaurant, and to thank her, she said, 「Thanks Gabby! You』re the bomb!」 Gabby looked at her very confused. She was thinking, 「Is that a compliment?!」 Then Linda explained, 「Oh that means you are great. You are awesome! 「

This phrase doesn』t make a lot of sense because bombs are bad things, but in English when you say, 「You』re the bomb,」 This is a good thing!

Then another day, a student wrote something really funny in his essay. I said to Sophie, 「Sophie, you are going to die when you see this!」 She also looked very confused. She was thinking, 「I』m going to die?!」 Then I explained, 「Oh, this means you will think it is very funny and laugh a lot.」

我便對蘇菲說:「蘇菲,you are going to die when you see this!」
