1.Without further ado 廢話少數，言歸正傳

例子：Without further ado, he took out his pen and lent it to me.

他二話沒說，拿出筆來，把它借給了我。

2.I figure.. 我猜/我覺得...

例子：I figure that our business should be able to break even in about a yea.

我猜我們的生意應該約一年就可以打平。

3.禮貌地形容外表

（1）形容人矮，short往往不夠禮貌，一般會用「petite（嬌小）」

（2）形容人胖，fat也不禮貌，可以用「plus size」

（3）形容膚色，千萬不能用white和blace，這兩個詞是專指美國種族的。一般是用pale和fair來形容白，用tan和dark形容黑。

4.結束對話的用法

（1）I'll leave you be.「打擾了，告辭」的意思。

（2）As you were.「和以前一樣」，常用於上司對下屬講完工作之後用到。

5.Off the hook 擺脫困境

例子：Let me off the hook with a mild reprimand .

溫和地責備后便放過了我。

6.「沒聽清」的低地道說法除了「Excuse me？」「Pardon？」還有：

（1）You lost me.我聽不懂，我不明白你的意思

（2）I didn't follow.我不明白，我沒聽清。

7.Have/get your back. 我挺你，我支持你。

例：If you ever need help, just ask. You know I have your back.

如果你需要幫助，儘管說，你知道的我挺你。

8.It works. 有效果，起作用。work除了「工作」以外，還「」作，有效的意思。

例：I don't understand how the model works.

9.Buy that 相信

Buy that除了有「買它」的表面意思，還有「相信某個說法」的意思。

例：I don't think she'll buy that. She wasn't born yesterday, you know.

我想她不會相信的。你知道，她不是那麼容易上當。

10.I've gotten carried away. 我扯太遠了

get carried away字面上的意思是被帶走了，就是心思。當你或是他人說話的時候離了題，偏離主旨扯遠了。你就可以用上這個表達法I've / You've gotten carried away.

11.mean mug someone 擺臭臉；給某人臉色

例：I forgot to put my phone on silent, that』s why people were mean mugging me in the library just now.

我忘記把手機調成震動了，所以剛剛在圖書館裡面大家都對我擺臭臉。

12.I can't/cannot even...我無語了

美國人年輕人都喜歡簡短性地表達，像這個短語就不是個完整的句子。但這重點就在於，你是想表達：因為你已經無語了，所以連一句話都說不出來了。這就形成了這個句子只有前面部分。如果完整的句子的話，就是I cannot even speak only one word.來表達自己有多無奈。

13.get your head around it 明白，搞清楚

例：I just can』t get my head around the fact that Joe is leaving us.

難以置信喬就要離開我們了。

14.running on fumes 非常疲憊，就快熬不住了

例：I』m sorry, but I』ve got to go home now. I haven』t slept for twenty hours and I』m running on fumes.

抱歉，我現在得回家。我已經有20個小時沒睡了，快熬不住了。

15.let the chips fall where they may 隨它去，不去管結果了

例：Kathy decided to risk her money on the investment, and let the chips fall where they may.

凱西決定冒險投資，不去管結果了。

16.hear (sth) on/through the grapevine 從傳聞中聽說；通過道聽途說獲悉；聽小道消息知道

例：I heard on the grapevine that he was leaving - is it true?

我聽到傳聞說他要離開了——是真的嗎？

17.shape up or ship out 行就行，不行滾（不改進就解僱你）

例：This is the last time I』m telling you to arrive on time. Shape up or ship out.

例：He stood up his date while he played basketball with the guys.
