面試小白系列—英語試講範例第一篇《Unit1 How tall are you?》

Unit 1 How tall are you?

Good morning, boys and girls.

Please look at the blackboard, there are two pictures of Yao Ming and Seven Dwarfs. Can you find out the differences between the pictures? Just as we see it, it』s obvious that Yao Ming is taller than Seven Dwarfs. But who can tell me how tall Yao Ming is? That girl in red, can you say it in English? Is there anybody else want to try? Well, today we will study how to say that in English this class.(Blackboard design: How tall are you?)

Please look at the blackboard. Let』s look at the conversation. (Blackboard design: A: How tall are you? B: I』m 1.42 meters. A: I』m taller than you. How old are you? B: I』m 12. I』m older than you.) Can you find out any regular patterns?

You are so clever. I love you. Please sit down. Now we have studied how to use original forms to describe a person. When we want to introduce a person, we can say he or she is tall or short, young or old, strong or thin, big or small. Moreover, we can use the comparative forms to describe a person. Please look at the conversation in the textbook. We need to know how to change adjec⁃tives and adverbs into the comparative forms.

First, let』s study how to change the positive degree of monosyllable into the comparative forms. There are three forms all. The first, for the most words, we add 「er」 to the ending of the word. For example, the word 「tall」, its comparative form is 「taller」. The second, if the ending of the word is 「e」, we should add 「r」 to the ending directly. For example, the word 「nice」, its comparative form is 「nicer」. The third, if the ending of the adjectives or adverbs is stressed closed syllable, and there is only one consonant, we need to double the last consonant, and then add 「er」. For example, the word 「big」, its comparative form is 「bigger」. Are you clear? Can you list more examples?

Next, let』s study how to change the positive degree of disyllable and polysyllable into the comparative forms. There are two forms. The first, if the ending of the positive degree are conso⁃nant and 「y」, we need to change the letter 「y」 to 「i」 first, and then add 「er」 at the ending. For example, the word 「heavy」, its comparative form is 「heavier」. The second, we add 「more」 in the front of these words. For example, the comparative of word 「beautiful」 is 「more beautiful」. But there are some exceptions. For example, the word 「little」, its comparative is 「less」, the word 「good」, its comparative is 「better」. Are you clear? Can you list more examples?

We have studied how to change adjectives and adverbs into the comparative forms above. But we need to be cautious is that it's unlikely that the changes above cover all situations. We need to accumulate more at usual time.

In the next time, boys and girls, it』s time to use the original forms or the comparative forms to make conversations. You can work in pairs or in groups. The more practice, the better you get. Now, please survey your classmates. After doing the survey, you should make up a simple conver⁃sation as below, 「you are taller than me, I』m shorter than you. I』m older than you, and you are younger than me」. More such examples can be listed. I suggest that we all have a try.

Well, boys and girls, all the contents of this class are over. Please finish the exercise in the textbook after class. And make a survey like the last one to your families. That』s all. Good-bye.
