Q: What is Blackout?
Alcohol does affect some neural pathways that move memories from short-term to long-term storage. Thus, people who drink heavily lose memories or struggle with amnesia.
The basic symptom of the blackout is memory loss. The most common cause is overdrinking of alcohol or drug abuse.
People who blackout would not usually become unconscious and thus they may drive themselves home, engage in a sexual encounter, or do some potentially dangerous or risky behaviors. And thus, they are more likely to physically injure themselves.
They might brush their teeth and have meals but they do not remember any of it afterward because their brain does not store these experiences into memory. Their brain back to normal after they sober up.
Blackout happens when a person’s blood alcohol content (BAC) reaches 0.15.
