What is the history of Hermes? Thierry Hermès founded Hermès in 1837 as a harness workshop in Paris by serving the needs of European noblemen by providing saddles, bridles and equestrian leather riding gear. Hermes is a family-owned company.  Is Hermes still family-owned? Six generations later, Hermès family is now known for its exclusive Parisian fashion house and a $49.2 billion fortune. The head of Hermès today are two cousins: Pierre-Alexis and Axel Dumas.

 

Hermès was originally recognized for its finely crafted horse harnesses and carriages. Hermès enter the world of luxury handbags until 1922. Nowadays, Hermès  is best known for its handbags, socialite-approved purses and printed scarves.How did the Hermes rise to fame? What makes  Hermès famous? What is Hermès brand best known for?During the 1930s, Hermès launched some of its most recognized original goods such as the leather “Sac à dépêches” in 1935, which was renamed as “Kelly bag” after Grace Kelly.

Today, the Kelly bag from Hermes becomes a symbol of social status or a symbol of wealth for the socialites. And these bags are highly exclusive and hard to come by. It is said that the craftsman has to take about 18 to 24 hours to complete a bag. 

 

Grace Kelly, who lived from 1929 to 1982, acting in movies such as Fourteen Hours, Mogambo, Rear Window, Green Fire, The Swan, and High Society. She became one of the most influential actresses in Hollywood. She dedicated to married Prince Rainier III when they met the second time and she became the Princess Consort of Monaco, where is a Principality bordered by France.

 

She had a taste for fashion and Hermes happens to be one of her most loved brands. She carries the bag made by Hermes to the announcement of her engagement. She was found carrying Hermes during her pregnancy, which makes the brand rise to fame on a worldwide scale. And the mainstream public renamed it the “Kelly bag” and it began to grow in popularity among the so-called upper-class celebrities, which gives Hermes much exposure to the world too. 

 

Since then, Hermes has a strong connection with the iconic actress and Princess, which helped its reputation grow.  Each individual bag is made by only one craftsman. It is said that the bag of Hermes is crafted with the most expensive skins and leathers available. The lining of Kelly bag is made from goatskin and then the rest of the bag is made of durable leather.

Grace Kelly 是出生費城，來是富豪之家，由於她的叔叔是劇作家，受其影響她在13歲起就登台表演，1949年從美國戲劇藝術學院畢業，1952年，以女主角的身分在《High Noon 日正當中》演出，備受歡迎。

 

兩年後，以《The Country Girl 鄉村姑娘》獲得奧斯卡最佳女主角獎，26歲那年，為愛急流勇退！1955年，Grace Kelly 在前往法國坎城工作時，受邀到鄰國的摩納哥進行拍攝工作，因而與王子 Rainier III 相遇，王子一見鍾情一路追愛盜美國，兩人在第二次見面後就決定結婚。

 

婚後，導演希區考克（Alfred Hitchcock ) 一度邀她再度復出， Prince Rainier III 並不反對，但是 Grace Kelly 最終考慮到王室的聲譽而婉拒邀約。婚後她熱衷慈善事業，也因為她的個人魅力讓摩納哥多了不少觀光客，間接幫助國家度過負債危機。

 

Grace Kelly 婚後的品味穿搭備受關注。一回，她為了躲避記者的鏡頭，以手上的 Hermes 手袋遮掩孕肚，自此 Hermes 水漲船高，Hermes 更將此手袋命名為「Kelly Bag」。1956年，Grace Kelly 結婚婚紗是由當時拿下兩次奧斯卡最佳服裝設計獎的 Helne Rose設計

 

1982年9月14日，Grace Kelly 駕車與小女兒出遊，她也因為這起嚴重車禍離世，享年52歲。
