Most Popular TV-Series that Teach You Investment Terminology and Business Management - Getting C

The following is my list of 6 TV shows that are more than likely to sharpen your business English and negotiation skills with abundant edgy business jargon.

Mad Men《廣告狂人》

“People will show you who they are, but we ignore it because we want them to be who we want them to be.”-Mad Man

It’s an iconic quote. Do we transform ourselves into the way the capitalist society “wants us to be” so as not to be excluded or badly judged by people around us?

“Change is neither good nor bad. It simply is.”-Mad Man

Due to his dramatic life experiences, he tend to believe that change is not always something to be feared or celebrated. A coin has two sides.Every cloud has a silver lining. Life is full of surprises. In real life, things are going to change whether we accept it or not. That’s just the way the world

“You want respect? Go out and get it for yourself.”-Mad Man
Respect has to be earned and it’s never easy. The leading character Draper is the man who strives to get his job done. He wants to deliver the best of the best no matter what.

“We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.” -Mad Man

The quote carries a lot of weight based on human nature. It plays into the idea that people traps themselves because of unfulfilled desires and we ignore what we have until we lose it. Excessive desire keeps people away from having a beautiful life.

“If you don’t like what’s being said, change the conversation.”-Mad Man

A big change in the world can start with one person. Are you able to  speak your mind in public? If everyone fails to be honest with their feelings, why do they socialize? Are you brave enough to speak up for what is morally right? Do not underestimate the power of your voice. Stop feel sorry for not taking actions. Learn to defend those you care.

“I have a life and it only goes in one direction. Forward.”-Mad Man
Dan is not the man who indulges in the past. He is committed to better his life in his own way.

“In Greek, ‘nostalgia’ literally means ‘the pain from an old wound… it takes us to a place where we ache to go again.”-Mad Man

Taiwanese actor Wen Zhenling “I don’t have high material desires anyway.” She has no desire to revolve her life around making more money.  She lost her father at the age of four. In order not to make herself a burden to the family, she started being the advertising model at the age of 12 and stopped obtaining money from her mom. After making the first feature film at 16 years old, she did not take any jobs for around a year. Her bank account only about 30 US dollars. She said, “I don’t have high material desires anyway.” She has no desire to revolve her life around making more money.

I can’t understand why so many people force others to make more and more money. If a person does not have high material desires, and she neither wants to get a luxurious car nor a fancy house. She neither wants to get luxury goods nor visiting high-end restaurants,  does it make sense for her to focus her lives on making money?

If a person is doing everything she loves and keeps a good mood and good health, isn’t it good enough? The most terrible thing is that some people stick to the wrong idea and they tend to preach what they believe and guide others ‘lives and they even blame others for not spend their whole life on making more money …

The Meaning Behind Material Desires

I would say, we are living in modern consumer-capitalist society that the mainstream public tend to value a person’s self-worth by what they wear and how much they earn because we barely have enough time to get to know much about a person in social gatherings. Most of us even can’t spend much time with their friends, lovers, or family members, let alone the strangers. Consumers do not have to be materialists — most aren’t; materialists will be enthusiastic consumers.

How to spend our time and money is deeply connected to our deepest desires and priorities in life. What you want out of your life? Most of us might get addicted to something consciously or not. Are you tempted to feel more glamorous, successful, confident or loved?

In a busy world that is often difficult to get people to understand more about ourselves, where do you seek comforts? Dating app, social media, food, flowers, or what?

And how you reward yourself for hard-working. Chances are, dreams give us the clues to our secret desires and the things we wish for. Our deepest desires might be hidden in our subconsciousness.

The question for you: Am I waste my life doing the things in the hope that I will be ……
